the "box half before eating" strategy is something my dietitian recommended too and it's been a game changer. If it sits on my plate I'll pick at it even when I'm full (old habits). If it's in a box in the bag, out of sight out of mind.

downloading Sweetgreen app now. I have one near my office and never tried it.

Saving this entire thread to my phone for my next work trip. You all are the real MVPs.

Hi, I'm a server at a mid-tier restaurant chain and just want to say: WE DO NOT CARE that you want modifications. Seriously. Ask for sauce on the side, double protein, no bun, substitute vegetables, whatever you need. We hear these requests 50 times a day.

What helps US help YOU:

  • Be specific: "Can I get the salmon with steamed broccoli instead of mashed potatoes?" is way better than "Can you make it healthy?"
  • If you want to split an entree, just tell us upfront so we can plate it that way
  • Ask about preparation methods. "Grilled" is always better than "crispy" (which means fried)

We genuinely want you to enjoy your meal. Most kitchens are very flexible with modifications. Don't be embarrassed about it.

bless you for this perspective! I always feel like I'm being "that customer" when I ask for modifications. Good to know the kitchen doesn't hate me.

Updated master list saved to my Notes app. If anyone wants to add more chains, keep them coming. I might compile this into a proper spreadsheet with macros for each recommended order and share the Google Sheet link.
