That is correct as far as it goes, and here is where it stops going. Yes, and the corollary is less popular: if the reasoning holds, it also holds where it produces an answer we do not like.

Clinical perspective, offered as context rather than as advice. Whatever the answer turns out to be, the method for getting there is the same: state the assumption, do the arithmetic in public, and invite the correction. That is slower than asserting, and it is the only version that survives being wrong.

Adding the part of the answer the thread has not reached. STEP 4 is the study that answers this and it is blunt. Participants who continued kept losing; participants switched to placebo regained about two thirds of what they had lost within a year, and the metabolic improvements faded with the weight. That is the same pattern as every other chronic-disease medication ever withdrawn, and it is an argument about the condition rather than about the drug.
